We do not have to blame God for our situation in Nigeria. We have to blame ourselves – Obasanjo

Olusegun Obasanjo the former President of Nigeria has announced that the citizens are to be blamed for the situation occurring at present in the nation.

This announcement took place at his Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library at Abeokuta, Ogun State during his 2021 message to Nigerians on Tuesday, December 29.

According to him, Nigerians should not be poor and they should not go to bed hungry due to the large number of resources present in the country.

“I like the motto of a particular school which reads ‘Work and Pray.’ Though some people argue that it should be ‘Pray and Work’, but it doesn’t matter to me what order I put it, but prayer and work must go side by side.

And I also believe that as we pray hard and we must also need to work hard in the country so that this coming year will be a glorious year for us all. But all this will not happen unless we work towards making it so.

We have to blame ourselves, not God for our situation in this country. Citizens of Nigeria do not have to be poor or go to bed hungry. The choices of our leaders and the followers have brought us to this situation we have now. My prayer is that God will make this coming year a better year for all of us. But it will not happen without work” his message read.

On the strategy to recover the economy from recession, Obasanjo said

“When we do the right thing, the economy will be what it should be.

The country has moved from one form of insecurity to a bad economy, and to top it all the dreaded COVID 19. Based on insecurity issues, or the bad economy, or COVID 19, some people have gone to the great beyond. To all those who have gone, particularly, particularly in this year full of challenges, I say that may their souls rest in perfect peace.
