The Federal Government arraigned Sowore and four others over New Year’s Eve protest.

On Monday, January 4, the Federal Government arraigned Omoyele Sowore, the Sahara reporters publisher, and four other people for leading a protest against the bad situation of the government. The protest was held on New Year’s Eve in Abuja. They were arraigned at the Magistrate Court in Wuse Zone 2, Abuja.

The charges that were laid against were as follows: criminal conspiracy, unlawful assembly, and attempting to lead others against the government.

Before the protest, Sowore had charged Nigerians to hold a crossover protest. This was done on Twitter. Sowore said that Nigerians should pick up candles and placards displaying their resentments against the Buhari government.

Sowore has been arrested not once. In 2019, he was arrested and detained for more than 100 days for bringing up a protest tagged: #RevolutionNowProtest.
